From scraps of fabrics given by an upholsterer, it comes to mind to create the beeswax food wrap in the simplest way (for vegans there is the alternative, described below).

Among those small scraps of fabric we find beautiful fruit patterns, perfect for the kitchen. We cut the edge with the zig zag cut scissors. The simplest procedure is to use only beeswax. We take a sheet of baking paper, we spread the fabric piece flat on the sheet, we distribute the beeswax beads, we lay another sheet on top and we pass the iron: that’s it! The result: “When I open the fridge, what a joy to see all these colourful containers!”.

Here a short video on the easy procedure: Beeswax only

Jojoba oil can be added as here: With jojoba oil

The best recipe, following the advice of my cousin Alice who always sends great suggestions from Australia, is the one with the resin! I omit the incidents, of which we laugh about, to procure it directly from the trees 🙂

Ingredients:

1 cup of beeswax

1/4 cup of tree resin

2 Tbls jojoba oil

Large glass jar

Pot to boil water in

Baking Tray

Baking paper

Soft bristle brush

Procedure:

Boil a pot of water on the stove (better an old pot in case there will be any wax left). Once it boils, reduce to a simmer, so as to keep the water hot. Fill a glass jar with the beeswax, the resin of the tree and the jojoba oil and put the jar in the pot of water. Melt the mixture and stir from time to time until it is completely dissolved in the jar. Spread a sheet of baking paper on a baking tray.

Place one of your fabrics on the backing tray with the decorated side facing up. Spread the melted beeswax on the fabric (about 2-3 tablespoons). Place the tray in the oven for a couple of minutes to allow the mixture to melt further and spread into the fabric fibres. Once melted, remove the tray from the oven and distribute the mixture evenly with a brush, making sure that the entire piece of fabric is covered. You only need to apply the mixture on one side as it will melt through the fabric, covering it completely. If the wax is uneven in some areas, simply place the tray back in the oven for a few minutes to warm it up and then repeat the step. Hang the piece of fabric to dry. The wax dries very quickly, in 5-10 minutes. Once dry, you can cut the edges to give a more refined appearance and even out the fabric as it may have stretched or lost its shape during the application of the wax.

(source: https://www.spelldesigns.com/blog/inspiration/diy-beeswax-wraps/)

For the vegan version, candelilla wax can be used instead of beeswax. It works best with the addition of tree resin. Or another wax to be used is the soy one, but candelilla seems to work better. Here a video on the subject: Candelilla vs Soia

Maintenance: the wraps can be washed with cold water and a mild soap. If the water is too hot, in fact, it can detach the wax and resin from the fabric and reduce its duration. It is possible to repeat the process with wax if necessary.

Is DIY not for you? On Etsy, there are so many options, even vegan ones! Vegan suggestions on Etsy

English: Dress Ecode’s lifestyle – Colorful upcycling in the kitchen to fight the plastic film (and sadness too!) What could be better than a small action that combines upcycling of fabrics, elimination of plastic and a breath of joy in the kitchen? Here a short video on the easy procedure: Beeswax only Jojoba oil can be added as here: With jojoba oil The best recipe, following the advice of my cousin Alice who always sends great suggestions from Australia, is the one with the resin! I omit the incidents, of which we laugh about, to procure it directly from the trees 🙂 Ingredients: 1 cup of beeswax 1/4 cup of tree resin 2 Tbls jojoba oil Large glass jar Pot to boil water in Baking Tray Baking paper Soft bristle brush Procedure: Boil a pot of water on the stove (better an old pot in case there will be any wax left). (source: https://www.spelldesigns.com/blog/inspiration/diy-beeswax-wraps/) For the vegan version, candelilla wax can be used instead of beeswax. It works best with the addition of tree resin. Or another wax to be used is the soy one, but candelilla seems to work better. Here a video on the subject: Candelilla vs Soia Maintenance: the wraps can be washed with cold water and a mild soap. If the water is too hot, in fact, it can detach the wax and resin from the fabric and reduce its duration. It is possible to repeat the process with wax if necessary. Is DIY not for you?
