A great second-hand purchase: long- lasting cashmere. Do you know the impact of this fiber?

The cashmere market has expanded in the last 20-30 years causing a rapid increase in the number of goats (4 times as many as there were in Mongolia 30 years ago, the region where cashmere mostly comes from). That increased amount of goats means overgrazing, that led to massive land degradation and soil erosion, impacting the climate. 

What can we do? Buying second-hand cashmere. It is a high-quality material, soft, keeping you warm and comfortable and it is long lasting. Choose a classic piece that you can wear for decades, you won’t regret it.

On Saturday we found this (second-hand) super soft cardigan, 100% cashmere, with accurate details like the double small bottons, for a very convenient price (the twin set was 18 euros). Dressing in a more sustainable way does not always mean expensive!

Il mercato del cashmere si è ampliato negli ultimi 20-30 anni causando un rapido aumento del numero di capre (4 volte tanto quelle presenti in Mongolia 30 anni fa, la regione da cui principalmente proviene il cashmere). L’incremento significativo di questi animali comporta pascolo in eccesso, che causa un massiccio deterioramento del terreno e l’erosione del suolo, con conseguenze sul clima.

Cosa possiamo fare? Acquistare cashmere  di seconda mano. È un materiale di alta qualità, soffice, mantiene al caldo, è molto confortevole e dura a lungo. Scegliete un capo classico da indossare per decenni, non ve ne pentirete!

Sabato abbiamo trovato questo golfino super morbido (usato), 100% cashmere, con dettagli molto accurati come i doppi bottoncini, a un prezzo davvero conveniente (18 euro il twin-set). Vestire in modo più sostenibile non vuol sempre dire costoso!

Un’alternativa: scegliete indumenti di cachmere sostenibile, verificandone la provenienza e l’impegno del produttore verso le persone e l’ambiente.
