Giacca realizzato al 100% da bottiglie di plastica riciclate. Abbiamo scelto questa ma Ecoalf, brand spagnolo, propone diversi modelli, più sotto il link per visionarli. Ci piace il loro impegno in progetti di pulizia del mare dalla plastica, recuperando rifiuti nel Mediterraneo con la collaborazione dei pescatori.

È uno dei miei marchi preferiti. La giacca che proponiamo è in 100% poliestere riciclato, con 30% di componente PET a base vegetale , creato attraverso la polimerizzazione e la filatura a fusione di glicole etilenico derivato dalle piante, estratto dalla melassa di canna da zucchero. È reversibile, quindi sarà come avere due giacche: abbiamo scelto questa in verde oliva da un lato e verde scuro dall’altro. È ripiegabile nella sua borsa per il trasporto (vi assicuro che risulta molto comodo quando si viaggia da un posto caldo a uno freddo o viceversa).
La gamma proposta è ampia, ma verificate di scegliere la linea in materiale riciclato, ottenuto dalle bottiglie di plastica.

It’s one of my favorite brands. The jacket we present is made of 100% recycled polyester, with 30% of plant-based PET component, created through the polymerization and fusion spinning of ethylene glycol derived from plants, extracted from sugar cane molasses. It is reversible, so it will be like having two jackets: we have choosen this one in olive green on one side and dark green on the other. It can be folded into its carrying bag (I can assure you that it is very convenient when traveling from a warm place to a cold one or vice versa).

Cinque anni e mezzo fa, dopo il più sanguinoso disastro manifatturiero di sempre, il crollo dell’edificio Rana Plaza ha ucciso almeno 1.134 lavoratori del settore tessile in Bangladesh: sindacati, organizzazioni non governative e consumatori si sono riuniti e hanno chiesto a marchi e rivenditori di entrare in un programma salva-vita di ispezione produttiva. Insieme, abbiamo convinto più di 200 aziende di abbigliamento a firmare “Accord on Fire and Building Safety” in Bangladesh. I lavoratori temevano per le loro vite quando andavano a lavorare per cucire magliette e jeans. Prima che i marchi si unissero ai sindacati nell’Accordo, ci furono decine di incendi con decine di lavoratori che morivano ogni anno mentre producevano abiti per marchi in Nord America e in Europa. Ma, oggi, l’Accordo copre 1.600 stabilimenti che impiegano oltre 2,26 milioni di lavoratori che vedono reali miglioramenti nelle loro fabbriche. Grazie all’accordo legalmente vincolante, gli incendi delle fabbriche e il crollo dell’edificio nel settore dell’abbigliamento in Bangladesh sono stati quasi sradicati con l’installazione di porte tagliafuoco, trombe delle scale e sistemi di allarme antincendio.
Ora, il programma che ha tolto la paura di entrare nel mondo del lavoro per milioni di lavoratori è minacciato.
All’inizio di quest’anno, un proprietario della fabbrica che si rifiutava di pagare per i miglioramenti salvavita per i suoi lavoratori ha denunciato l’Accordo. L’Alta corte del Bangladesh ha quindi usato questo caso come scusa per dirigere un ordine restrittivo contro l’Accordo che costringerebbe a chiudere prematuramente le sue operazioni in Bangladesh. Se non parliamo ora, l’accordo sarà costretto a lasciare il paese dal 30 novembre (aggiornamento: prorogato ora fino al 17 dicembre). L’ufficio dell’Accordo sarebbe stato chiuso e ai suoi 250 dipendenti locali non sarebbe più stato permesso di svolgere il loro importante compito di mantenere i lavoratori al sicuro. Nel giro di poche settimane, le fabbriche ispezionate dall’Accordo potrebbero diventare nuovamente trappole mortali, se i proprietari delle fabbriche tornano alle loro pratiche commerciali del passato come bloccare i lavoratori all’interno durante l’orario lavorativo.
Molte fabbriche sono ancora sottoposte a lavori di ristrutturazione di importanza critica che sono previsti per la supervisione degli Accordi, tra cui il rafforzamento delle fondamenta e dei muri che sostengono gli edifici. Queste sono alcune delle ristrutturazioni più costose necessarie per proteggere i lavoratori e, in base all’accordo, i marchi e i rivenditori sono responsabili di garantire il finanziamento. Se il governo costringe l’Accordo a partire, i costi ricadranno esclusivamente sui proprietari delle fabbriche, che potrebbero non effettuare le riparazioni necessarie.
L’unico modo per proteggere i progressi compiuti dall’Accordo è di revocare l’ordine restrittivo in modo che sia permesso continuare le operazioni in Bangladesh. Ecco perché invitiamo il Primo Ministro a segnalare un forte sostegno per consentire all’Accordo di continuare il suo importante lavoro di rendere le fabbriche sicure per milioni di lavoratori dell’abbigliamento.
Alcuni governi e marchi firmatari dell’Accordo hanno parlato a sostegno del proseguimento del lavoro importante dell’Accordo.
Il Bangladesh si affida alla produzione e alla vendita di vestiti a consumatori internazionali come noi – è il momento di alzare la voce e chiarire che i consumatori vogliono vestiti fatti in condizioni di sicurezza e che non sosterranno l’espulsione dell’Accordo!

We have signed the International Labor Rights Forum petition, to take concrete action in favor of the workers’ safety in Bangladesh.
Many clothes are produced in this country where the conditions of those working in the clothing industry are not always acceptable.
We quote here the description of the petition to send the letter that more than 2,900 people have already delivered to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Labor, asking that the inspections to the industries continue at the current frequency.
One more action we can take to eliminate the poor working conditions of those people who produce our clothes in Bangladesh.

Five and a half years ago, after the deadliest manufacturing disaster ever – the Rana Plaza building collapse that killed at least 1,134 garment workers in Bangladesh – unions, NGOs, and consumers came together and called for brands and retailers to join a life-saving factory inspection program. Together, we convinced more than 200 apparel companies to sign onto the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. Workers used to fear for their lives when going to work to sew T-shirts and jeans. Before brands joined with unions in the Accord, there were scores of fires with dozens of workers dying each year while producing clothes for brands in North America and Europe. But, today, the Accord covers 1,600 factories employing over 2.26 million workers who see real improvements in their factories. Thanks to the legally-binding agreement, factory fires and building collapses in Bangladesh’s garment industry have been nearly eradicated with the installation of fire-rated doors, enclosed stairwells, and fire alarm systems.

Now, the program that has taken away the fear of entering the workplace for millions of workers is under threat.

Earlier this year, a factory owner refusing to pay for life-saving improvements for its workers sued the Accord. The Bangladesh High Court then used this case as an excuse to level a restraining order against the Accord that would force a premature shut-down of its operations in Bangladesh. If we don’t speak out now, the Accord will be forced to leave the country as of November 30th. The Accord’s office would be closed and its 250 in-country staff would no longer be permitted to do their important job of keeping workers safe. In a matter of weeks, factories that the Accord has inspected could become death traps once again, if factory owners return to their business practices of the past such as locking workers inside during business hours.

Many of the factories still have critical renovations that are scheduled to be made under the Accord’s oversight, including strengthening the foundations and the walls that hold the buildings up. These are some of the costliest renovations needed to protect workers and, under the Accord, brands and retailers are responsible for ensuring financing. If the government forces the Accord to leave, the costs will fall solely on factory owners, who may not make the needed repairs.

The only way to protect the progress made by the Accord is to lift the restraining order so that it is permitted to continue operations in Bangladesh. That’s why we’re calling on the Prime Minister to signal strong support for allowing the Accord to continue its important work of making factories safe for millions of garment workers.

Some governments and Accord signatory brands have been speaking out in support of continuing the Accord’s important work. Bangladesh relies on making and selling clothes to international consumers like us – it’s time to raise our voices and make it clear that consumers want clothing made in safe conditions and won’t stand for the expulsion of the Accord!

A great second-hand purchase: long- lasting cashmere. Do you know the impact of this fiber?

The cashmere market has expanded in the last 20-30 years causing a rapid increase in the number of goats (4 times as many as there were in Mongolia 30 years ago, the region where cashmere mostly comes from). That increased amount of goats means overgrazing, that led to massive land degradation and soil erosion, impacting the climate. 

What can we do? Buying second-hand cashmere. It is a high-quality material, soft, keeping you warm and comfortable and it is long lasting. Choose a classic piece that you can wear for decades, you won’t regret it.

On Saturday we found this (second-hand) super soft cardigan, 100% cashmere, with accurate details like the double small bottons, for a very convenient price (the twin set was 18 euros). Dressing in a more sustainable way does not always mean expensive!

Il mercato del cashmere si è ampliato negli ultimi 20-30 anni causando un rapido aumento del numero di capre (4 volte tanto quelle presenti in Mongolia 30 anni fa, la regione da cui principalmente proviene il cashmere). L’incremento significativo di questi animali comporta pascolo in eccesso, che causa un massiccio deterioramento del terreno e l’erosione del suolo, con conseguenze sul clima.

Cosa possiamo fare? Acquistare cashmere  di seconda mano. È un materiale di alta qualità, soffice, mantiene al caldo, è molto confortevole e dura a lungo. Scegliete un capo classico da indossare per decenni, non ve ne pentirete!

Sabato abbiamo trovato questo golfino super morbido (usato), 100% cashmere, con dettagli molto accurati come i doppi bottoncini, a un prezzo davvero conveniente (18 euro il twin-set). Vestire in modo più sostenibile non vuol sempre dire costoso!

Un’alternativa: scegliete indumenti di cachmere sostenibile, verificandone la provenienza e l’impegno del produttore verso le persone e l’ambiente.

Si parla spesso di intelligenza artificiale e della preoccupazione per la perdita di lavoro da parte di milioni di persone in seguito alla sua diffusione. Un recente studio realizzato dalla società di consulenza PwC mostra che per esempio in Gran Bretagna il 30% delle professioni sono a rischio, incluse quelle nei settori della grande distribuzione e della vendita all’ingrosso.

Nell’industria della moda, una fonte di preoccupazione sembra riguardare i personal shopper: un sistema di intelligenza artificiale, sviluppato in California, capace di capire ciò che una persona desidera indossare e creare nuovi outfit in base alle sue preferenze.
Basandosi sulla traccia dei prodotti acquistati o cercati, il sistema propone nuovi abiti.
Lab126, di Amazon, ha utilizzato un algoritmo simile l’anno scorso analizzando le immagini e utilizzando le informazioni per creare nuovi stili.

It is common to talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the worry about loosing jobs for million of people due to its spread. A recent study made by the consultancy firm PwC shows that for example in UK 30% of jobs are risking, including the ones in the retail and wholesale sectors.
In the fashion industry, a source of worrying seems to be of interest for the personal shoppers: an AI system, developed in California, able to understand what a person would like to dress and to create new outfits according to his preferences.
On the basis of the track of purchased and/or searched products, the system suggests new clothes.
Lab126, from Amazon, used a similar algorithm last year, analysing images and using information to create new styles.
