Lodovica Cattani e M. Giulia Gaudenzi, insieme a Dress Ecode, hanno organizzato l’Eco Swap Party al Caffè Letterario di Roma per sensibilizzare sull’impatto dei nostri vestiti sui cambiamenti climatici. L’evento è stato realizzato in partnership con The Climate Reality Project -Team Europe, di cui con Lodovica facciamo parte. Ci siamo lasciati subito coinvolgere dall’entusiasmo di queste due ragazze piene di desiderio di fare qualcosa di concreto (e divertente) per fermare gli effetti della fast fashion sull’ambiente!

Lo swap party funziona incontrandosi per scambiare vestiti che teniamo inutilizzati nell’armadio. Lo spirito é quello di donare ciò che è lì fermo e che rischia di essere buttato, mentre può essere proprio ciò che un altro sta cercando o che indosserà con molto piacere. Allo stesso tempo si possono prendere capi portati da altre persone rinnovando il proprio guardaroba senza spendere.

All’Eco Swap Party, a cui hanno partecipato davvero in tanti, esaurendo in poco tempo i biglietti disponibili, abbiamo visto chi era molto felice di aver trovato qualcosa di bello (c’è chi ha scovato una bellissima maglia di Fendi!), ma ancor di più lo era chi diceva soddisfatto: “Qualcuno ha preso le cose che ho portato!”, con molta gioia di essere stato utile e di non aver buttato qualcosa che appunto magari per un altro è un tesoro.

Giulia, aiutata da alcuni volontari tra cui Simone, Adelaide e un’altra Giulia, è stata molto brava a organizzare il ritiro e la disposizione dei capi nel locale, ricreando un vero e proprio punto accogliente per lo “shopping”. Dietro a uno swap party si nasconde un grande impegno, affinché tutto possa funzionare al meglio. I partecipanti sono ben entrati nello spirito dell’iniziativa, collaborando alla buona riuscita.
Insieme allo scambio di vestiti, abbiamo proposto anche interventi sull’impatto dell’industria della moda sui cambiamenti climatici (presentato da noi) e sul progetto di Adelaide Stazi, costumista e scenografa che crea cappelli e vestiti da materiali recuperati. In un corner dello swap è stato possibile farsi scattare una fotografia con i suoi cappelli esposti.
Tutto si è svolto all’insegna del divertimento, gustando piacevolmente un aperitivo. Perché essere sostenibili é anche divertente!
È stato molto bello vedere la presenza di uomini e donne di ogni età, segno che lo scambio è un tipo di evento con un risvolto positivo anche sociale: vedere insieme generazioni diverse che si incontrano, scambiano e trascorrono tempo insieme è una ricchezza.
I capi che sono rimasti sono stati donati alla Comunità di Sant’Egidio di Roma, che recupera, ricicla o rivende abbigliamento e altri oggetti.

Pensiamo di ripetere l’evento al prossimo cambio di stagione, con alcune novità, e comunicheremo la nuova data appena sarà stabilita.

English – Eco Swap Party: the pictures and the story of the green party to save the environment and to renew our wardrobe

Lodovica Cattani and M. Giulia Gaudenzi, along with Dress Ecode, have organized the Eco Swap Party at Caffè Letterario in Rome to raise awareness of the impact of our clothes on climate changes. The event was organized in partnership with The Climate Reality Project – Team Europe, of which Lodovica and I are member. We immediately let ourselves be involved by the enthusiasm of these two girls full of desire to do something concrete (and fun) to stop the effects of fast fashion on the environment!

The swap party works by meeting to exchange clothes that we keep unused in the closet. The spirit is to give what is still there and that risks being thrown away, while it can be just what another person is looking for or what he/she will wear with great pleasure. At the same time you can take clothes brought by other people, renewing your wardrobe without spending an euro.

At the Eco Swap Party, in which so many people took part, in a short time running out the available tickets, we saw those who were very happy to have found something beautiful (some found a marvellous Fendi shirt!), but even more so were the ones satisfied exclaiming : “Someone took the things I brought!”, with great joy to have been useful and not to have thrown a possible treasure for someone else. 

Giulia, helped by some volunteers including Simone, Adelaide and another Giulia, was very good at organising the collection and the disposition of the garments in the club, recreating a real welcoming point for “shopping”. Behind a swap party a great commitment hides, in order to make everything work at its best. The participants are well entered in the spirit of the initiative, collaborating in its success.
Together with the clothes swap, we also proposed speeches on the impact of the fashion industry on climate changes (presented by us) and on Adelaide Stazi’s project, a costume and set designer who creates hats and clothes from recovered materials. In a corner of the swap it was possible to have a photograph taken with her exhibited hats.
Everything took place in the name of fun, pleasantly enjoying an aperitif. Because being sustainable is also fun!
It was very nice to see the presence of men and women of all ages, a sign that the swap party is a type of event with a positive social aspect: seeing different generations together, exchanging and spending time together is a richness.
The garments that have remained have been donated to the Community of Sant’Egidio in Rome, which recovers, recycles or resells clothing and other objects.

We plan to repeat the event at the next change of season, with some news, and we will communicate the new date as soon as it is established.

Quando ho iniziato ad avere consapevolezza dell’impatto dei vestiti sull’ambiente e sulle persone, ma soprattutto quando ho iniziato a scrivere per Dress Ecode mi sono posta il problema di ciò che avevo nell’armadio. Scrivendo di questo tema e partecipando a eventi sulla sostenibilità o a campagne/azioni ambientaliste ti chiedi cosa indossare in modo coerente. Perché spesso guarderanno se non solo predichi bene, ma pure se non razzoli male. Perché si aspetteranno di vederti vestita dal cappello alle mutande, ai calzini, alle scarpe con materiali sostenibili.

Perché altrimenti cade tutto e non risulti coerente. Come puoi parlare di sostenibilità nella moda se porti un abito di cotone sbiancato? Come puoi informare sulle conseguenze della fast fashion se indossi una camicetta di H&M? Come puoi raccontare di storie di schiavitù moderna con ai piedi un paio di sneakers di un noto marchio accusato di non pagare adeguatamente i suoi lavoratori?

Ho riflettuto molto sul da farsi e ancora oggi mi interrogo sulla scelta migliore. Nel momento in cui ho aperto sugli occhi sulle conseguenze del settore della moda il mio armadio offriva tutto ciò con cui vestirsi per almeno dieci anni.
Prima opzione: buttare via tutto, disfarsi di ogni cosa e acquistare di nuovo il necessario seguendo gli accorgimenti maturati alla luce dei diversi studi sull’argomento. In questo modo ogni imbarazzo nel parlare di sostenibilità indossando capi non sostenibili sarebbe stato evitato. Facile, un po’ dispendioso, ma risultato garantito.
Altra opzione: continuare a tenere ciò che c’è nel guardaroba, perché prendere e buttare capi praticamente nuovi non sarebbe molto responsabile. Più difficile, non dispendioso, risultato non garantito. Perché ogni volta quel sospetto “predica bene ma razzola male” può aleggiare nell’aria.

Cosa ho scelto e cosa scelgo ogni giorno?
Ricercando un po’ di buon senso, sperando di averne un briciolo, ho deciso una via di mezzo:
– Regalare/vendere ciò che, ancora in buono stato, mi accorgo di non indossare frequentemente.
– Aggiustare/rimodernare ciò che posso ancora portare con piacere
– Inserire nuovi capi solo se necessari, se mi piacciono moltissimo e so che li indosserò tante volte per molto tempo.
I nuovi capi saranno in tessuti sostenibili oppure di seconda mano/vintage oppure cuciti con le mie manine. Adoro le caratteristiche del lino , della canapa e dell’ortica. A contatto con la pelle mi piacciono il cotone biologico, le viscose e altre fibre vegetali prodotte meccanicamente (non chimicamente) in modo responsabile. Ho deciso di acquistare capi di lana solo di seconda mano oppure, se dovesse capitare, in tipologie non danneggianti gli animali (come la lana di yak) e preferibilmente artigianali. Così per la seta.

Accanto a indumenti ereditati da mamma, nonna, bisnonna, zia e altri familiari e a capi che possiedo anche da venti anni, mi trovo ancora nell’armadio camicette e vestitini di marchi fast fashion. Sì, perché vengo da una vita precedente di mancata conoscenza, chiamiamola pure ignoranza, di ciò che sta dietro i vestiti. Vengo da quella fase di effimera ebrezza di poter finalmente comprare con i primi soldini guadagnati tutto ciò che si ha voglia di indossare, per cambiare ogni giorno vestito per andare al lavoro o per uscire la sera e nei week-end. Ma vengo anche da un periodo precedente completamente diverso, a cui ora sono tornata: alle medie e al liceo dovevo lambiccarmi il cervello e fondermi il piccolo neurone da bionda per poter creare “vestite” diverse (si diceva così, oggi si dice outfit diversi). Perché a scuola erano sempre tutte vestite ogni giorno in modo differente, ma io non avevo una marea di vestiti alla moda. Ricordo che guardavo i telefilm (le serie di oggi) per prendere qualche idea. I soldini non erano miei, non si poteva proprio fare shopping ogni settimana come ora con la fast fashion riescono anche le più giovani con pochi euro. Di quel periodo ricordo un po’ di avvilimento e frustrazione, ma ora ne sono grata. Perché mi ha insegnato a combinare tra loro capi differenti inventando diversi outfit con pochi pezzi in un proprio stile. Oggi lo chiamano capsule wardrobe Allora era prendere un po’ dal mio armadio e un po’ da quello di mamma mescolando le poche cose in modo diverso.
Ed è quello che continuo a fare oggi, con gioia nell’utilizzare una parte di creatività nel vestirmi.

Ho ancora nell’armadio capi fast fashion acquistati nuovi tanti anni fa. Pian piano non rappresentandomi più li donerò, per ora continuo a indossarli perché ormai li ho lì, accanto a vestiti vintage e second-hand. Ci sono anche capi di marchi non molto sostenibili ma acquistati usati.
Pronta a spiegare le ragioni a chi mi chiederà cosa indosso.
Non so se sia la scelta migliore di tutte, mi lascio guidare dal buon senso sperando di agire nel modo meno dannoso per l’ambiente e altre persone. Se vuoi scoprire qualche outfit sostenibile che indosso, nel gruppo Facebook di Dress Ecode condivido qualche foto insieme ad altri partecipanti.

English: Dress Ecode lifestyle – What’s in my closet since I opened my eyes to the impact of fashion?

When I started to become aware of the impact of clothes on the environment and on people, but especially when I started writing for Dress Ecode I asked myself the question of what I had in the wardrobe. Writing about this issue and participating in sustainability events or environmental campaigns/actions, you wonder what to wear coherently. Because people will often watch if you are not only preaching well, but also if you practice what you preach. Because they will expect to see you dressed from the hat, to underpants, to socks, to shoes with sustainable materials.

Because otherwise it all falls and you do not prove to be consistent. How can you talk about sustainability in fashion if you wear a bleached cotton dress? How can you inform about the consequences of fast fashion if you wear a H&M blouse? How can you tell stories of modern slavery with a pair of sneakers from a well-known brand on your feet accused of not paying its workers adequately?

I have thought a lot about what to do and even today I wonder about the best choice. When I opened my eyes to the consequences of the fashion industry, my wardrobe offered everything to dress for at least ten years.
First option: to throw away everything, to get rid of everything and buy the necessary again following the considerations taken in the light of the various studies on the subject. In this way any embarrassment in talking about sustainability by wearing unsustainable clothes would have been avoided. Easy, a bit expensive, but a guaranteed result.
Another option: to keep what’s in the wardrobe, because taking and throwing almost new clothes wouldn’t be very responsible. More difficult, not expensive, unsecured result. Because every time that suspicion “preaches well but does not practice” could hover in the air.

What did I choose and what do I choose every day?
Searching for a bit of common sense, hoping to have a bit of it, I decided on a middle way:
– To donate/sell what, still in good condition, I realise I don’t wear frequently.
– To repair/refashion what I can still wear with pleasure.
– To add new clothes only if necessary, if I like them very much and know that I will wear them many times for a long time.
The new garments will be in sustainable fabrics or second-hand/vintage or sewn with my hands. I love the characteristics of linen, of hemp and of nettle. On the skin I like organic cotton, viscose and other plant fibers produced mechanically (not chemically) responsibly. I decided to buy wool clothes only second-hand or, if it happens, in types that do not damage animals (such as yak wool) and preferably artisanal. So for silk.

Next to garments inherited from my mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and other family members and clothes I have also owned for twenty years, I still find in the closet blouses and dresses of fast fashion brands. Yes, because I come from a previous life of lack of knowledge, let’s call it ignorance, of what lies behind the clothes. I come from that ephemeral phase of being able to finally buy with the first pennies earned all that you want to wear, to change every day dressed to go to work or to go out at night and on weekends. But I also come from a completely different previous period, to which I have now returned: in middle school and high school I had to rack my brains and fuse the little neuron of a blond to be able to create different “dressing options” (it was said so, today we say different “outfits”). Because at school they were all dressed differently every day, but I didn’t have a lot of fashionable clothes. I remember watching TV series (today’s series) to get some ideas. The pennies weren’t mine, you couldn’t just go shopping every week as now with the fast fashion even the youngest manage with a few euros. From that time I remember a bit of frustration and frustration, but now I am grateful. Because it taught me to combine different clothes together, inventing different outfits with just a few pieces in his own style. Today they call it capsule wardrobe At that time it was like taking a little from my closet and a little bit from mum’s, mixing the few things differently.
And that’s what I continue to do today, with joy in using a part of creativity in dressing.

I still have fast fashion items as good as new in my wardrobe bought many years ago. Not representing me anymore, I will slowly donate them, for now I continue to wear them because now they are there, next to vintage and second-hand clothes. There are also items of brands that are not very sustainable but purchased used.
Ready to explain the reasons to those who ask me what I’m wearing.
I do not know if it is the best choice of all, I let myself be guided by common sense hoping to act in the least harmful way for the environment and other people. Abbiamo imparato qualcosa riguardo l’impatto dei vestiti sull’ambiente, abbiamo letto articoli o libri, abbiamo visto documentari che ci hanno aperto gli occhi sull’industria della moda. E dal momento in cui abbiamo acquisito consapevolezza si affollano nella nostra testa domande come “Cosa posso fare per evitare di contribuire a disastri ambientali e sociali?”, “Cosa compro?”, “Dove compro?”. Uno dei quesiti principali che leggiamo e che ci vengono posti è… “Ma quale tessuto è sostenibile?”.

Ogni volta che nei forum, nelle chat, nei commenti si parla di un tessuto spuntano aspetti negativi: “Viene da lontano!”, “Usa troppi prodotti chimici!”, “Distrugge le foreste!”, “Richiede troppa acqua!”, “Non si può riciclare alla fine del ciclo di vita!”, “Per produrlo si utilizza troppa energia!”, “È trasformato in fabbriche in paesi dove si sfruttano i lavoratori!”, “Danneggia gli animali!” ecc. ecc.

Così arriva la sconforto, perché se tanto in ogni modo continuo a produrre impatto negativo per quale ragione mai dovrei sforzarmi di comprare in modo alternativo? Il rischio quindi è di rinunciare a fare qualcosa.

Questo tema ci sta particolarmente a cuore. Non esiste al momento il tessuto perfetto. Ma aspettate di leggere fino in fondo, perché c’è un lieto fine.

Le nostre vite hanno conseguenze sulla natura e sugli animali, perché ogni nostra azione umana è un’interazione con l’esterno e comporta effetti e modifiche. Pure il nostro respiro è un’interazione con l’ambiente circostante. Come altri aspetti della nostra vita da essere umani, mangiare, spostarsi, abitare, anche vestirsi produce un impatto.

È impossibile annullare del tutto le nostre orme umane su questo pianeta. L’impatto “zero” non può essere il nostro obiettivo: troppo difficile, con il rischio di abbandonare provando frustrazione e abbattimento. Possiamo invece mirare a inserire armoniosamente la nostra esistenza umana all’interno di un ecosistema rispettando tutte le altre forme di vita e in sintonia con animali e vegetali. L’attività umana dovrebbe cercare di causare il minore impatto possibile ad altre specie e al pianeta in sé.

Preso atto di ciò, cosa possiamo allora fare? Decidere con buon senso e responsabilità la tipologia di impatto che desideriamo avere (positivo/negativo), su che cosa (ambiente e/o persone e/o animali) e il livello (il massimo che posso fare/il minimo sforzo/impegno crescente). Piccoli miglioramenti da parte di milioni di persone hanno un impatto davvero significativo, più di quello di cento persone perfettamente sostenibili. 

Inoltre, per produrre risultati duraturi e significativi il percorso verso una vita più sostenibile non dovrebbe essere pieno di ansia, al contrario: dovrebbe essere intrapreso gioiosamente, visto il nobile obiettivo e le meravigliose conseguenze che comporta su noi, sugli altri, sugli animali, sul pianeta! No stress.

Ma torniamo ai tessuti. La produzione di manufatti è un processo impattante, non è possibile creare qualcosa senza “disturbare” il contesto esterno… Il punto è quanto impatta. Non è una questione di fibre buone o cattive. “Compro tutto in bambù e in cotone organico, sono a posto!”. Non è che una maglietta in bambù sia automaticamente migliore di una in cotone tradizionale. L’impegno del produttore durante tutto il ciclo di vita del prodotto tessile è ciò che fa la differenza, sia dal punto di vista ambientale sia sociale. Se la maglietta in bambù è prodotta tramite un processo altamente chimico di trasformazione della corteccia in cellulosa, inquinando acque e suolo circostante la fabbrica alimentata da combustibili fossili, se è sbiancata o colorata con tinte fortemente inquinanti, se è prodotta (per risparmiare) in paesi in cui non ci sono adeguati controlli di condizioni di sicurezza per i lavoratori né garanzie di salari dignitosi, se viaggia da una parte all’altra del mondo senza la minima attenzione alla produzione di CO2 di tutti gli spostamenti, non è detto che sia una scelta più sostenibile rispetto a una maglietta in cotone tradizionale, magari prodotta da un’associazione di artigiani locali in India dove è presente la piantagione, trasformata attraverso un processo alimentato da energie rinnovabili, colorata con tinte naturali secondo un’antica tradizione del posto e inserita in un progetto di riciclo alla fine del suo utilizzo, per cui è possibile riconsegnarla al produttore una volta lisa, rovinata o inutilizzata.

In questa non semplice fase di valutazione, sarebbe utile avere strumenti a disposizione che consentano di conoscere una misura oggettiva della sostenibilità di ciò che acquistiamo, senza dover studiare e impegnarci noi ogni volta che compriamo. Un’etichetta che mostri un indice di sostenibilità validamente riconosciuto e attribuito in maniera pulita e onesta. Ci sono soluzioni attualmente allo studio. Nel frattempo ciò che sicuramente ci aiuta, e ha grande valore, è la trasparenza del produttore nel condividere in modo sincero le scelte operate lungo tutto il ciclo di vita del prodotto, dal design alla sua fine o rinascita. Sulla base delle informazioni che abbiamo a disposizione, decideremo noi secondo le scelte personali, come dicevamo prima riguardo la tipologia di impatto che desideriamo avere (positivo/negativo), su che cosa (ambiente e/o persone e/o animali) e il livello (il massimo che posso fare/il minimo sforzo/impegno crescente). Il punto non è essere perfetti, il punto è fare con serenità ciò che ci prefiggiamo nelle nostre possibilità. 

Il percorso è serenamente fatto di passi, non per tutti di salti acrobatici! L’importante è avanzare su questo sentiero, dimenticandoci della (irraggiungibile al momento) perfezione.

English – The perfect fabric: our choices along the sustainable path

We learned something about the impact of clothes on the environment, we read articles or books, we saw documentaries that opened our eyes to the fashion industry. And from the moment we gained awareness, our mind is crowded of questions like “What can I do to avoid contributing to environmental and social disasters?”, “What should I buy? “,” Where should I buy?”. One of the main questions we read and are asked about is… “But which fabric is sustainable?”.

Every time in the forums, in the chats, in the comments we talk about a fabric, negative aspects pop up: “It comes from far away!”, “It uses too many chemicals!”, “It destroys the forests!”, “It requires too much water!”, “It cannot be recycled at the end of the life cycle!”,” To produce it, too much energy is used!”,” It is transformed into factories in countries where workers are slaved!”,” It damages animals!”, etc. etc.

Thus comes the discouragement, because if so much in every way I continue to produce negative impact, for what reason should I ever strive to buy in an alternative way? The risk is therefore to give up doing anything.

This issue is particularly important to us. The perfect fabric does not exist at the moment. But wait until you read to the end, because there is a happy ending.

Our lives have consequences on nature and animals, because every our human action is an interaction with the external context and involves effects and changes. Our breath is also an interaction with the surrounding environment. Like other aspects of our lives, from being human, eating, moving, living, even dressing produces an impact.

It is impossible to completely cancel our human footprints on this planet. The “zero” impact cannot be our goal: too difficult, with the risk of abandoning it by feeling frustration and dejection. We can instead aim to harmoniously insert our human existence within an ecosystem respecting all other life forms and in harmony with animals and plants. Human activity should try to cause the least possible impact to other species and to the planet itself.

Taking note of this, what can we do then? We can decide with common sense and responsibility the type of impact we wish to have (positive/negative), on what (environment and/or people and/or animals) and the level (the maximum I can do/the minimum effort / increasing effort). Small improvements by millions of people have a truly significant impact, more than that of a hundred perfectly sustainable people.

Furthermore, to produce lasting and meaningful results, the path to a more sustainable life should not be full of anxiety, on the contrary: it should be undertaken joyfully, given the noble goal and the wonderful consequences it has for us, for others, for animals, for planet! No stress.

But let’s go back to the fabrics. The production of manufactured goods is an impactful process, it is not possible to create something without “disturbing” the external context… The point is how much it impacts. It is not a question of good or bad fibers. “I buy everything in bamboo and organic cotton, I’m fine!” It is not that a bamboo shirt is automatically better than a traditional cotton one. The manufacturer’s commitment throughout the life cycle of the textile product is what makes the difference, both from an environmental and a social point of view. If the bamboo t-shirt is produced by a highly chemical process of transformation of the cortex into cellulose, polluting the waters and the soil surrounding the factory fuelled by fossil fuels, if it is bleached or coloured with highly polluting colours, if it is produced (to save money) in countries in which there are no adequate control measurement on safety conditions for workers or any guarantees of decent wages, if it travels from one part of the world to another without the slightest attention to the CO2 production of all journeys, it is not necessarily a choice more sustainable than a traditional cotton shirt, perhaps produced by an association of local artisans in India where the plantation is present, transformed through a process powered by renewable energies, coloured with natural dyes according to an ancient tradition of the place and inserted into a recycling project at the end of its use, for which it is possible to return it to the producer once worn, damaged or unused.

In this not simple evaluation phase, it would be useful to have available tools that allow to know an objective measure of the sustainability of what we buy, without having to study and make efforts on researching every time we buy. A label that shows a sustainability index validly recognized and attributed in a clean and honest manner. There are solutions currently being studied. Meanwhile, what certainly helps us, and has great value, is the transparency of the manufacturer in sincerely sharing the choices made throughout the life cycle of the product, from design to its end or rebirth. Based on the information we have available, we will decide according to personal choices, as we said earlier about the type of impact we wish to have (positive/negative), about what (environment and/or people and/or animals) and the level (the maximum I can do/the least effort/increasing effort). Spesso ci chiediamo cosa possiamo fare per contribuire a limitare l’impronta ambientale creata da ciò che viene prodotto e consumato. Magari ci siamo ritrovati a pensare che “tanto è inutile, anche se faccio qualcosa non cambia nulla”. Ecco un’idea che davvero farà la differenza:  se in 10.000 ci uniamo per non acquistare indumenti nuovi per 3 mesi, possiamo evitare la produzione di 360.000.000 litri di acqua e di 1.400.000 chili di emissioni di CO2. 

Abbiamo deciso di diventare ambasciatori dell’iniziativa di Slow Fashion Season perché crediamo che questa esperienza, che sarà divertente e interessante, possa portare un concreto risultato in termini di impatto ambientale!

Dal 21 giugno al 21 settembre invece di acquistare indumenti nuovi scopriremo altri modi di far fronte alle nostre necessità relative all’abbigliamento. Sarà divertente e interessante perché non ci priveremo di nulla, al contrario ci troveremo più ricchi (in tutti i sensi ).

Vi prepareremo una breve guida su come vivere questi tre mesi e saremo disponibili per tutto il periodo ad aiutarvi a trovare alternative all’acquisto del nuovo.

A Verona, il 25 maggio vi mostreremo come creare una maglia e un accessorio in pochi semplici passi utilizzando rimanenze di tessuto e come rimodernare magliette e camicie che altrimenti non indosseremo più (qui i dettagli Ecofashion: laboratorio con pranzo e stile). Vorremmo ripetere il laboratorio anche in altre città.

Slow Fashion Season è un’iniziativa creata da CollAction, la prima piattaforma crowdacting ufficiale al mondo. Crowdacting significa “agire collettivamente e condizionatamente allo scopo di ottenere un impatto positivo sul mondo e sui suoi abitanti”. Il concetto è molto simile al crowdfunding, ma le persone si impegnano a compiere azioni, invece di inviare denaro. Quando viene raggiunto l’obiettivo predeterminato di numero di persone, il gruppo agisce.

L’anno scorso Slow Fashion Season ha consentito il risparmio di 92.100.000 litri di acqua e di 375.400 kg di emissioni di CO2, quest’anno desideriamo fare di più!

We often ask ourselves what we can do to help limit the environmental footprint created by what is produced and consumed. Maybe we found ourselves thinking that “in any case it’s useless, even if I do something it doesn’t change anything”. Here is an idea that will really make the difference: if 10,000 people join to not buy new clothes for 3 months, we can avoid the production of 360,000,000 litres of water and 1,400,000 kilos of CO2 emissions.

We have decided to become ambassadors of the Slow Fashion Season initiative because we believe that this experience, which will be fun and interesting, can bring a concrete result in terms of environmental impact!

From 21 June to 21 September, instead of buying new clothes, we will discover other ways to meet our clothing needs. It will be fun and interesting because we will not deprive ourselves of anything, on the contrary we will find ourselves richer (in every sense ).

We will prepare a brief guide on how to live these three months and we will be available throughout the period to help you find alternatives to new purchases.

In Verona, May 25th we will show you how to create a shirt and an accessory in just a few simple steps using fabric remnants, and how to modernise shirts and shirts that otherwise we won’t wear anymore (here the details Ecofashion: a workshop with lunch and style). We would also like to repeat the workshop in other cities.

Slow Fashion Season is an initiative created by CollAction, the first official crowdacting platform in the world. Crowdacting means: “taking action collectively and conditionally with the purpose of achieving positive impact on the world and its inhabitants”. The concept is very similar to crowdfunding, but people commit to actions, instead of money. When the predetermined target of number of people is reached, the group acts.

Last year Slow Fashion Season allowed the saving of 92.100.000 liters of water and 375.400 kg of CO2 emissions, this year we want to do more!

“We want to make people aware that there are other solutions – that another lifestyle, or way of consuming is possible. And that doing the right thing doesn’t have to be boring or painful – it can be fun and creative, especially when supported by our growing community of CollActivists. We can wait for governments, the industry, or other people to act. Or we can set an example with our actions, together”, says Ron van den Akker, co-founder and CEO of CollAction.

Dietro ogni articolo che trovate qui, ci sono non solo ore di studio e ricerca dedicate con passione all’argomento trattato (es. sui materiali descritti oppure sui brand proposti), ma anche impegno nella comprensione delle sfide che si trova davanti chi come voi decide (o non) di intraprendere un cammino di maggiore sostenibilità e responsabilità verso le persone e l’ambiente.

Forse dovremmo dire a gran voce: “È facilissimo! Non ci vuole nulla, è più facile a dirsi che a farsi!”. Da una parte è vero: provare ad adottare comportamenti più consapevoli e attenti nel rispetto degli altri e della natura non è impossibile. Preferire l’acquisto di un capo di abbigliamento prodotto in modo responsabile, scegliere di non comprare, riparare, riutilizzare, accertarsi che un marchio sia sostenibile, donare abiti che non si indossano più, cercare nell’usato ciò di cui si ha bisogno… non sono imprese ardue! Chiunque può iniziare, chiunque può pian piano fare un passo in più, con i propri tempi.
D’altra parte con sincerità desideriamo raccontarvi che questo cammino è fatto anche di sforzi quotidiani che sosteniamo per cercare di vivere in modo più coerente possibile con quanto proponiamo e le idee che condividiamo. Comprendiamo le piccole o grandi difficoltà che possono accompagnare un cambiamento del proprio stile di vita o della propria famiglia. Comprendiamo, perché nel nostro impegno quotidiano nella vita reale, non solo sul nostro sito internet, la pagina Facebook o l’account Instagram, viviamo queste piccole/grandi sfide.

Per questo vorremmo raccontarvi com’è la vita pratica di Dress ECOde, in una rubrica dentro il blogzine dedicata al racconto di gesti in linea con quanto scriviamo e agli intoppi che possono capitare, condividendo in tutta franchezza successi (come una riparazione riuscita di un paio di jeans) e insuccessi (ad esempio pensieri di tornare allo stile di vita meno consapevole Scriveteci della vostra vita pratica, racconteremo ciò che anche a voi capita!

Speriamo che, insieme agli articoli, condividere le esperienze possa esservi utile per iniziare o proseguire su questa strada. Adottare uno stile di vita responsabile non è tutto rosa e fiori ma é possibile e soprattutto è necessario, per noi, per gli altri, per l’ambiente, per la nostra salute. Behind every article you find here, there are not only hours of study and research dedicated with passion on the subject (eg on the materials described or on the brands proposed),  but also a commitment to understanding the challenges faced by those who decide ( or not) embarking on a path of greater sustainability and responsibility towards people and the environment.

Perhaps we should say with a loud voice: “It’s very easy, it’s so simple, it’s easier said than done!”. On the one hand it is true: trying to adopt more conscious and careful behaviors in respect of others and of nature is not impossible. Preferring to buy a garment produced in a responsible way, choosing not to buy, repairing, reusing, making sure that a brand is sustainable, donating clothes that are not worn anymore, looking for what you need in the used … they are not arduous missions! Anyone can start, anyone can slowly take one more step, with their own pace.
On the other hand, we sincerely want to tell you that this journey is also made of daily efforts that we support to try to live as coherently as possible with what we offer and the ideas we support. We understand the small or big difficulties that can go with a change in one’s lifestyle or one’s family lifestyle. We understand it because in our real life daily commitment, not only on our website, Facebook page or Instagram account, we live these small / big challenges.

For this reasons, we would like to tell you how the practical life of Dress ECOde is, in columns inside the blogzine dedicated to stories of actions in line with we write and of problems that can happen, honestly sharing successes (such as a well-done repairing of jeans) and failures (for example thoughts on going back to a less conscious lifestyle Write us about your practical lifestyle, we will tell here  what happened to you!

We hope that , together with the articles, sharing the experiences can be useful to start or to continue on this path. Adopting a responsible lifestyle is not all a bed of roses, but it’s possible and above all necessary for us, for the others, for the environment and our health. Quanti di noi hanno un paio di jeans nell’armadio? Soprattutto quelli preferiti, vorremmo che si mantenessero belli per sempre. In generale, ci piace allungare la vita dei nostri vestiti! Ecco alcuni accorgimenti per farli durare nel modo più sostenibile possibile (sulla sostenibilità dei jeans stiamo studiando per prepararvi un bell’articolo):

• Innanzitutto é meglio lavarli il meno possibile, quando hanno macchie o sono proprio sporchi, non solo per evitare che si restringano o sbiadiscano, ma anche per ridurre il consumo di acqua e quindi l’impatto sull’ambiente. Meno si lavano e più sono belli. Dal sito di Hiutdenim Co: “Crediamo che più resisti senza lavarli, più bello diventerà  il tuo paio di jeans”. Qui puoi leggere di più sui benefici di ‘No Wash Club’! Anche il brand inglese Albam suggerisce. “Ci sono molte correnti di pensiero su come prendersi cura dei jeans. Alcuni dicono ‘Wear them ever, wash them never’ (Indossali sempre, lavali mai)”. Il marchio svedese Nudie Jeans sostiene: “Rispetto ad un nuovo paio di jeans asciutti, l’odore di un paio ben indossata poco prima del lavaggio è completamente diverso. È un odore che potrebbe molto probabilmente resuscitare i morti. Ma è sicuramente l’odore di un vincitore”.  

• Lavali con acqua fredda, invece di acqua tiepida o calda, perché è più delicata per le fibre.
• Meglio lavarli a mano, soprattutto se sono decorati o hanno inserti in ecopelle; se li metti comunque in lavatrice, ricordati di farlo a pieno carico e imposta un programma delicato.
• Per farli durare di più, prima del lavaggio chiudi la cerniera lampo o i bottoni.
• Rigirali per il lavaggio, così si protegge il davanti. E inoltre avrai modo di verificare di non aver dimenticato nulla nelle tasche
• In caso di macchie, pre-tratta con uno smacchiatore ecologico o anche con semplice sapone delicato.
• Utilizza un detersivo delicato (ecologico), senza esagerare con le quantità, perché non è vera l’equazione “più detersivo=più pulito”!
• Un vecchio trucco per ravvivare i jeans è quello di metterli a bagno in acqua e aceto prima del lavaggio (consigliamo di sostituire l’aceto con l’acido citrico, perché più sostenibile). Non abbiamo evidenza del fissaggio dei colori ma sicuramente diventeranno più morbidi! Qualcuno aggiunge anche la birra.
• In caso di jeans induriti puoi metterli in ammollo in acqua e acido citrico, aggiungendo 1 cucchiaio di sale grosso.
• Per avere jeans morbidi, come ammorbidente per il lavaggio utilizza l’acido citrico.
• Non strizzarli, perché si rischia di torcere e spezzare le fibre. Per togliere l’acqua puoi arrotolarli e premere con decisione.
• Stendili all’aria, evitando la luce diretta del sole. È meglio evitare l’asciugatrice, li maltratta! Puoi metterli in orizzontale, oppure posarli su un asciugamano che assorba l’acqua o appenderli nella doccia lasciandoli sgocciolare.
• Se proprio è necessario stirarli, stirali a rovescio con ferro caldo con vapore, dalle tasche alle gambe.
• Appendili su una gruccia di legno, piegandoli all’altezza della ginocchia in modo che la vita penda verso il basso e lasciando che “respirino” nell’armadio.
• Per ravvivarli tra un lavaggio e l’altro puoi preparare una soluzione da mettere in uno spruzzino con 50% vodka (liscia) e 50% acqua. Puoi sostituire la vodka con l’acido citrico oppure utilizzare 1 cucchiaio di bicarbonato sciolto in mezzo litro di acqua e una decina di gocce del tuo olio essenziale preferito.

Ps Il metodo di riporli nel freezer non è scientificamente provato! Il freddo sembra catturare i batteri in modo da eliminare l’odore per un po’, ma una volta indossati il calore corporeo attiverà nuovamente i batteri.

ENGLISH –  Jeans: let’s make them last with some little tricks!

Who has a pair of jeans in the wardrobe? Especially the favorite ones, we would like to maintain them perfectly forever. In general, we like to make life of our clothes longer! Here there are few tips to make them last in the most sustainable way:

• Firstly, it’s better to wash them the less frequently as possible, when they have stains  or they are really dirty, not only to avoid that they shrink or fade but also to reduce water consumption and so the impact on the environment. The less you wash them, the more beautiful they are. From the website Hiutdenim Co:  “We believe, the longer you can go without washing them, the more beautiful your pair of jeans will become”. Here you can read more on the benefits of ‘No Wash Club’! Also the UK brand Albam suggests: “There are many thoughts on how to care for your jeans, some say, ‘Wear them ever, wash them never’. The Swedish brand Nudie Jeans claims: “Compared to a new pair of dry jeans, the smell of a well-worn pair just before wash is a completely different matter. It’s a smell that could most probably raise the dead. But it’s most definitely the smell of a winner”. 

• Wash them with cold water, instead of warm or hot one, because it’s more delicate on fibres.
• Better hand washing, especially if they have decoration or ecoleather inserts; if you still put them in the washing machine,  remember to load it fully and to set up a delicate program.
• To make them lasting longer, close the zipper or buttons before washing.
• Turn them over for washing, so the front is protected. And you will also have the opportunity to verify that you have not forgotten anything in your pockets 
• In case of stains, pre-treat with an ecological stain remover or even with simple mild soap.
• Use a mild (ecological) detergent, without exaggerating with quantities, because “the most detergent = the most cleaner” equation is not true!
• An old trick to revive the jeans is to soak them in water and vinegar before washing (we recommend replacing the vinegar with citric acid, because it’s more sustainable). We do not have evidence of the fixation of the colors but surely the jeans will become softer! Someone even adds beer.
• In case of hardened jeans you can soak them in water and citric acid, adding 1 tablespoon of coarse salt.
• To get soft jeans, as a fabric softener use citric acid in washing cycle.
• Do not squeeze them because you risk twisting and breaking the fibers. To remove the water you can roll them up and press firmly.
• Hang them out avoiding direct sunlight. It is better to avoid the dryer, mistreat them! You can place them horizontally, or place them on a towel that absorbs water or hang them in the shower letting them drip.
• If you really need to iron them, stir them upside down with hot iron with steam, from the pockets to the legs.
• Hang them on a wooden hanger, bending them at the knees so that the waist hangs down and letting them “breathe” in the closet.
• To revive them between washings, you can prepare a solution to put in a spray with 50% vodka (smooth) and 50% water. You can replace the vodka with citric acid or use 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate dissolved in half a liter of water and a dozen drops of your favorite essential oil.

Ps The method of storing them in the freezer is not scientifically proven! The cold seems to capture the bacteria so as to eliminate the smell for a while, but once worn the body heat will activate the bacteria again.
